I disagree that bowl games are ruined. Bowl games are an awesome opportunity for at large teams to showcase their end of season talent against power five teams. Remember when Cincinnati lost to Georgia on a field goal but proved to everyone they belonged in the playoff then the next year they came back and made it. While it may not be as exciting for a lot of your larger power five schools it is so much fun and meaningful for your at large schools.

Thank you for the analysis. Just wanted to point out some things: the biggest difference for me is, while Canada has a real selection of good U20 players, Brazil got there with the guys who play and have less than 20 years. Also, some guys couldn't go because they couldn't pay for the traveling expenses (which aren't cheap and yeah, the players were responsible for their costs). They had like two training camps together prior to the championship. We brazilians lack a lot in the basics because we didn't grow playing this sport. Some of the guys are on their second, even first year playing, and are 2nd string on their teams because of their inexperience, but they were the ones that could go. For me, it's a big win to see Brazil up there because, like it happened after the 2015 World Cup, this may be the starting point of some good changes. Maybe we can see a better game against teams like Australia and Panama, looking forward to it. If you wanna catch up with some brazilian american football, stay tuned to my channel. The CFP helped kill college football. If you aren't consistently in the top 10 programs, you may as well not have a team at all because you are irrelevant. College ball needs to go back to the regionality that it had. We can argue all day about who's #1 after the bowl games, which would then have purpose again.

Brazilian ametican football player and coach here, I'm the offensive coordinator of one of the only 2 under-20 programs in Brazil and was the QBs Coach during the national trials for this roster. This game was a real kick in the teeth for us, but it was a tragedy waiting to happen. Only 7 years ago, I was a part of the first ever full-pads under-20 game played in Brazil, and it was one of the worst games of football ever played. The thing is, since then, not much has changed, my team's program has developed a lot, but besides us, there is only one other under-20 program in the country, which is very good and located in Rio. No other brazilian team invests in youth football or has a dedicated youth program. For this game, the players and the coaches are the least responsible. They battled little financial incentives and lack of funding, as they had to bear all of their costs. Many had their visas rejected, and some were even unable to travel due to the major floods that happened in southern Brazil at the beginning of this year. Many of our players are very talented and even have received scholarships to play in the US, but we are far from a complete team, and even further from Canada's level and their more then 100 years of experience playing football. For me, the onus for this result is on the FA and the National Government for not providing adequate funding for our athletes, but also on the whole system for not investing in youth football. This result was necessary, and I hope it will provide real lessons that we can learn and become better in maybe 10, 20, 30 years.
